- Have a fire evacuation plan ready for both your home and your business.
- Check the batteries in your smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly.
- Routinely practice fire drills and evacuation plans.
- Never leave candles burning unattended.
- Do not overload electrical outlets or circuits.
- Do not leave stove or other cooking devices unattended.
- Ensure all matches, lighters and other fire ignition devices are out of reach of children.
- If you have a fireplace, have the chimney cleaned and inspected before winter use.
